Liquid syrups are one of the dosage forms of medicines formulated in the form of liquid solutions, this liquid solution is viscous in nature due to sweeteners content. Some are less viscous and some are more viscous, viscosity of syrups is depending upon the concentration of sweeteners.
They are preferable for the patients who is suffering from swallowing disorder or having any type of difficulties while swallowing solid dosage forms like tablets and capsules.
Liquid dosage forms like syrups are finding more easier in administration as compared to other dosage forms, this is the reason why paediatric preparations are formulated in the form of liquid dosage forms like syrups or suspension.
Although syrup and suspension both are liquid dosage forms but they have several differences also like:
- Syrups are considered as solution. Means all the particles are well dissolved in the solvent medium and equally distributed in each ml of syrups where as in suspension drug particles are settled down in the bottom of the bottle, it needs to be well shaken before administration for the equal distribution of drug particles.
- Suspensions required special labeling ‘’ Shake well before use’’, whereas syrups do not require such types of labeling.
There are many pharmaceutical manufacturers who are manufacturing liquid dosage forms, one of them is Affy group, they are the liquid syrup manufacturer in India, along with liquid syrups they also manufacture suspensions, dry syrups and other solid dosage forms.
