There are many dosage forms of medicines like tablet, capsules, syrups, injections etc, are administered through different routes in our body.
Injections are used when patients are unconscious and unable to take medicines through oral route. It is also used for immediate relief.
There are different types of injections on the basis of their route of administration:
- Intradermal Injection- This type of injections is administered through derma route.
- Subcutaneous Injection- This type of injection is administered through subcutaneous route.
- Intravenous Injection- This type of injection is administered through Intravenous route.
- Intramuscular Injection- This type of injection is administered through intramuscular route.
- Intraperitoneal Injection-This type of injection is administered through intraperitoneal route.

Classification of injectables
Injections are also classified on the basis of their forms:
- Dry injection- Dry injections are the injection manufactured in dry powder form, need to be reconstituted at the time of administration, it contains reconstitution solvent in their pack like water for injection etc.
- Liquid injection- Liquid injections are manufactured in liquid form, so it does not need to reconstitute at the time of administration.
- Lyophilized injection-Lyophilized injections are manufactured by lyophilization process in which three steps takes place: 1. Deep freeze drying, 2. Then sublimation process takes place, 3. and in last desorption takes place. These types of injections have better shelf life as compared to other form of injections.
